TVPPA/NRECA Power Quality Manual
Electrotek completed a revision of the Tennessee Valley Public Power Association (TVPPA) Power Quality Manual. This manual was originally developed for TVPPA in response to a growing concern among their member utilities and their customers about power quality issues. The manuals were developed to build understanding of power quality problems and to develop a general procedure for evaluating these concerns. The manuals also provide a set of characteristics and definitions for power quality variations. The original two volume set gained such wide acceptance that Electrotek was asked to revise, update, and expand the manual to three volumes. This three-volume set has now gained wider distribution through TVPPA licensing the manual to the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association's Cooperative Research Network. The revised manual is available to TVPPA and NRECA Cooperative Research Network members. You can purchase this latest edition in hard copy and on CD from Alexander Publications. Search under "Power Quality." The part number is 732.

NRECA Power Quality Signature Database
Electrotek completed the Power Quality Signature Database project for the Cooperative Research Network (CRN) of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA). The Power Quality Signature Database provides co-ops with an easy-to-use wizard and reference guide to help diagnose power quality problems on distribution systems. The report includes more than 100 representative waveforms for various power system fault and power quality events, including voltage sags, momentary interruptions, voltage swells, harmonics, capacitor switching transients, transformer energizing transients, ferroresonance, etc. The waveforms are grouped by the categories provided in IEEE Std. 1159, and the raw data files for each waveform are included in the IEEE PQDIF and COMTRADE formats. These files can easily be viewed using Electrotek's free TOP, The Output Processor program. The database links with the NRECA Power Quality Manual for convenient access to additional information and case studies. The report is available to CRN members. You can find additional information regarding this project at the CRN website.
CEATI Customer Power Factor Correction Capacitor Application Guide
On behalf of several of North America’s leading utilities, the Power Quality Interest Group of CEA Technologies Inc. (CEATI) commissioned Electrotek Concepts Inc. to produce an easy to understand, yet comprehensive guide on power factor correction, which could be used by the utility customers. This manual overviews the different national and international standards on power factor, gives a good theoretical background on the subject, as well as case studies on the improvement of Power Factor. CEATI Monitoring and Analysis of Power Quality Problems Associated with Distribution Capacitor Banks Application Guide
On behalf of several of North America’s leading utilities, the Power Quality Interest Group of CEA Technologies Inc. (CEATI) commissioned Electrotek Concepts Inc. to develop an application guide that provides design, operation, simulation, and performance monitoring guidelines for assessing distribution capacitor banks and their effect on customer power quality. The report provides utility distribution engineers with a summary of the most significant power quality problems associated with the application of utility distribution capacitor banks. CEATI Practical Guidelines for Evaluating the Impact of Transients on Utility Customers Application Guide
On behalf of several of North America’s leading utilities, the Power Quality Interest Group of CEA Technologies Inc. (CEATI) commissioned Electrotek Concepts Inc. to develop an application guide that presents the complex subject of power system transients using easily understandable terms, guidelines, and examples. The guide includes relevant standards-related information and representative waveforms for many of the common transients that occur on the electric power system, including capacitor bank switching, feeder and transformer energizing, fuse operation, faults, arrester operation, induction motor starting, lightning, and ferroresonance. This report provides utility distribution and power quality engineers with a summary of power system transients and commonly applied methods for reducing their effect on utility and customer power systems.
