Power Quality Training
Power quality (PQ) training is one of the most important parts of the educational process to begin learning and continue advancing in PQ. Technical training provided by Electrotek's expert PQ engineers provides the student with the foundational concepts required to start building your PQ knowledge. Each training course includes a review of key basic concepts necessary to start expanding a student's knowledge once the basic foundational concepts are developed. Foundational concepts include industry terms, definitions, jargon, graphics and some theory as required. All of Electrotek's PQ training courses are interactive. This allows students to interact with Electrotek's expert engineers to extend the learning process via dialogue.
Given the cramped schedules of technical personnel at utilities, A&E firms, manufacturers and end users, Electrotek now offers a training option for everyone's schedule, budget and timeline. Some like to learn on their own pace, some prefer a technical expert guide them through the material, some want to come to the expertise and get the "hands-on" experience with Dranetz PQ monitors and some cannot travel but want the expertise to come to them.
Many individuals interested in learning the basics of PQ or about advanced PQ topics cannot set plans to be away from their facilities for long periods of time. In many cases, students must complete PQ training courses at their own pace as time permits in their business work periods. Electrotek's PQ training offering are available through our On-Demand Courses. These courses are pre-developed and stored on this website. They can be accessed through a paid subscription. No Electrotek expert is provided for this training option. However, students are offered the luxury of documenting their questions as they traverse the course materials. When a course is completed, students may submit that battery of questions to our Electrotek expert PQ training engineers for review and reply. These questions arrive to our training experts in the form of an email. Responses are typically delivered to the students by replying to that email with text answers or additional information necessary for the student to overcome the knowledge deficiency. Pricing for the courses included in this training option is designed to be very affordable for students at every budget level. No Continuing Educational Units (CEUs) are offered through this training option.
Lectured (Moderated) On-Line Courses
This Electrotek training option takes the On-Demand Courses to a different level. Each Basic PQ Training course and each Advanced PQ Training option is delivered through an Electrotek expert PQ engineer who has a historical and knowledgeable background of that topic. Electrotek experts who are engaged in delivering PQ training materials under this option are not really "lecturing" the students. They are providing expert technical guidance regarding the specific PQ topic while giving the student(s) an opportunity to digest the information and ask follow up questions before moving on to the next topic. Students are also required to keep a log of questions and comments regarding the materials in each topic. The time required to progress through these courses is slightly longer and managed by the moderator to ensure the courses are completed within the allotted time for each course. These courses may be delivered independently or to multiple students on-line. Pricing for this training option is slightly higher and depends on if one or multiple students pre-register. CEUs are offered for this option with a supporting Electrotek Certificate of Completion.
In-Person Face-to-Face Training in Electrotek's PQ Training Center
Some companies interested in PQ training for their employees require that training be delivered at the Electrotek facility during a pre-scheduled training period, especially if the customer is not too far from (within 250 miles) the Electrotek - Knoxville, Tennessee location and if hands-on Dranetz PQ monitor (instrument) training is also required. Instrument training may be provided by Dranez PQ monitor experts or by Electrotek PQ experts. Instrument training is also complimented by the use of Dranetz PQ monitor electronic simulators as well as with the physical instruments connected to actual AC sources and non-linear electrical loads.
Typically, multiple students--five (5) to as many as 30, attend in-person classes. Electrotek's offices and PQ laboratory in Knoxville, Tennessee includes our Power Quality Training Center (PQTC). The PQTC can support small groups of up to eight (students) in the smaller training room or up to 35 students in the large training room. Each room is adjacent to the building's outside wall to provide a wall of natural light, which can be blocked by window blinds. A central table is provided in the smaller room. The tables and chairs in the larger room may be arranged in any configuration to necessitate the number of students and purpose of the training. Each room is equipped with comfortable chairs with AC power and wired and wireless network connections. These functions are useful when Dranetz PQ monitor training is administered with training on the use of Electrotek's PQView power quality data management and analysis software. Detailed training notebooks with all training materials and a spacious margin to take notes and record questions / comments along with a softcopy of the materials on a CD-ROM can be provided for a small additional cost. Pricing for this training option is slightly higher and depends on if one or multiple students pre-register. CEUs are offered for this option with a supporting Electrotek Certificate of Completion.
